On February 17, 2009, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Liu Jieyi met with visiting Director General for Political Affairs of the German Foreign Office Volker Stanzel, exchanging views on Iran’s nuclear issue.

Liu emphasized that it is in the common interest of the international community to peacefully resolve the Iranian nuclear issue through diplomatic negations and safeguard peace and stability of the Middle East. Parties concerned should seize the current opportunity, step up diplomatic efforts and show flexibility, so as to facilitate early restart of talks and negotiations to seek a comprehensive, enduring and proper settlement of the nuclear issue.
