Assistant Foreign Minister Wu Hongbo Meets with Former Hungarian Prime Minister Medgyessy

On May 12, 2009, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Wu Hongbo met in the Foreign Ministry with former Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Medgyessy, who is visiting China at the invitation of the Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs. During the meeting, Wu made positive comments on the sound development of China-Hungary relations in recent years and appreciated Medgyessy's contributions to advancing bilateral friendship. Wu also thanked Medgyessy and the Hungarian government for their strong support to China's quake relief and reconstruction efforts. Medgyessy said China and Hungary share a traditional friendship and Hungary attaches great importance to developing ties with China. He noted that Hungary will continue to firmly adhere to the one-China policy and expand mutually beneficial cooperation with China in all areas. Both sides also exchanged views on the activities marking the 60th anniversary of China-Hungary diplomatic relations as well as the international financial crisis.
