Wu Bangguo Meets with Prime Minister of Kuwait

On the afternoon of July 7, 2004, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress met with Prime Minister Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah of the State of Kuwait at the Great Hall of the People.

Wu Bangguo said that since the establishment of diplomatic ties, relations between China and Kuwait have been developing smoothly with the political relations being maintained at a high level. The two sides share mutual political trust and can support each other on issues of concern to the other. Cooperation in economy and trade has scored remarkable achievements and that in international affairs is also effective. This visit by Prime Minister Sabah will definitely push China-Kuwait relations towards further development in the changed situations.

Wu Bangguo briefed the guest on latest developments of Chinese industries and infrastructure construction. He indicated that both China and Kuwait are committed to developing their economies and the two sides are highly complementary in terms of economy and trade. Therefore there are a lot of opportunities for cooperation. China would like to make joint efforts with Kuwait to bring the traditional friendly cooperation between the two countries to a new stage.

Wu Bangguo added that the National People's Congress of China attaches great importance to developing relations with the National Assembly of Kuwait, saying that exchanges and cooperation between the two legislatures are beneficial to mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples. China hopes that the legislative bodies of the two countries can enhance exchanges and strengthen cooperation in international parliamentary organizations.

Sabah said that both China and Kuwait are developing countries. Therefore Kuwait supports development of China, and hopes and also needs to establish cooperative partnership with China. This visit has scored important achievements and turned over a new leaf in Kuwait-China relations. Kuwait wishes to work together with China to carry out the consensuses reached by the two sides and develop cooperation on the basis of equality and mutual benefit. He indicated that exchanges between the legislative bodies play an important role in promoting the bilateral cooperation, so Kuwait is willing to enhance exchanges and cooperation in this regard.
