On July 10, 2007, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Zhai Jun met in the office building of the Foreign Ministry with the director-general of the Department of Asian and African Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kuwait, who is in China for departmental-level consultation between the two Foreign Ministries.

Zhai said the Chinese government attaches importance to developing friendly ties with Kuwait and is ready to work with Kuwait to push for friendly pragmatic cooperation in all areas. The Chinese Foreign Ministry gives top priority to the consultation mechanism between the two Foreign Ministries, he said, expressing hope that both sides will give full play to the role of the mechanism and strengthen coordination on bilateral ties and international and regional issues.

The Kuwaiti side said recent years have witnessed rapid development of friendly cooperation between the two countries on politics, economy, trade and energy. Kuwait cherishes its traditional friendship with China and hopes to strengthen friendly cooperation with China in all fields, the director-general said, adding that Kuwait would also like to continue bilateral communication and cooperation in international and regional affairs.
