On the afternoon of September 5, 2005, Chairman Wu Bangguo of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) of China who was paying an official good-will visit to Morocco met with President of the Moroccan Senate Moustapha Okacha in the Moroccan parliament tower. Wu reviewed his past two days of visit, saying that it is the first time for him to visit Morocco which, despite being short, gives him a pleasant and deep impression. He held a friendly meeting with King Mohamed VI, fruitful talks with President of the Chamber of Representatives Abdeloughed Radi and cordial meeting with Prime Minister Driss Jettou, exchanging in-depth views and reached important consensus on further developing the bilateral relations, strengthening parliamentary exchanges and expanding the mutually beneficial cooperation. His visit is a complete success. Wu noted that China and Morocco enjoy both a profound foundation for and great potential of cooperation. To strengthen the bilateral cooperation in all fields not only benefits the two peoples but also makes major contribution to world peace and development. He indicated that the differences in social system and ideology constitute no obstacle to the exchanges between the NPC of China and the Moroccan parliament. We expect to maintain the momentum of high-level exchanges of visit, reinforce the friendly exchanges and cooperation at multiple levels, enhance understanding, broaden common consensus and lay down a wider foundation for advancing bilateral ties. Wu invited Okacha and more Moroccan senators to visit China. Okacha thanked and accepted the invitation of Wu with pleasure, saying that the Morocco-China friendly relations based on mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit bypass the geological distance and the differences in ideology and maintain a sound momentum of development. The friendly feeling between the two peoples gets increasingly deepened. The Moroccan Senate is willing to continue reinforcing relations and expanding cooperation and exchanges with the NPC and jointly push for the in-depth progress of Morocco-China friendly ties. Sheng Huaren, Vice-Chairman and Secretary-General of the Standing Committee of the NPC, major deputy presidents of the Moroccan Senate and leaders of various Moroccan political parties attended the meeting.
