China and Morocco

In 2010, the People's Republic of China and the Kingdom of Morocco enjoyed smooth progress in their friendly cooperative relations.

The two countries maintained close interactions at various levels. In January, Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi visited Morocco. In April, Zhou Yupeng, Vice Chairman of the Shanghai Municipal People's Congress, and Chen Jianguo, Member of the CPC Central Committee and Secretary of the CPC Committee of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, visited Morocco. In June, Jiang Futang, Member of the NPC Standing Committee and Vice Chairman of the NPC Foreign Affairs Committee, paid a visit to Morocco. In November, Secretary Guo Shengkun of the CPC Committee of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Vice Mayor Ai Baojun of Shanghai visited Morocco respectively. In the same month, Vice President Cheng Tao of the Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs attended the Third MEDays, Southern Forum in Morocco. In December, Wang Zhengwei, Chairman of the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, visited Morocco. In April, Youssef Amrani, Secretary General of the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, visited China and held the fifth round of political consultation between the two ministries with Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Zhai Jun. In May, Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Taib El Fassi Fihri came to China to attend the Fourth Ministerial Meeting of China-Arab States Cooperation Forum. In September, Speaker of the House of Representatives Abdelouahed Radi came to China to attend the Morocco National Pavilion Day and China National Pavilion Day at World Expo 2010 Shanghai. He also met with NPC Chairman Wu Bangguo. In November, André Azoulay, Senior Adviser to King of Morocco, visited China. In December, a delegation of members of the Independence Party, the Socialist Union of People's Force and the Party of Progress and Socialism of Morocco visited China. Morocco continued its valued support to China on issues related to Taiwan, Tibet, Xinjiang and human rights. King Mohammed VI of Morocco sent messages of condolences to President Hu Jintao over the Zhouqu mudslide and Yichun air crash.

China-Morocco trade witnessed fast growth. Mutually beneficial cooperation in fishery, communications and project contracting were fruitful. In January, during Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi's visit to Morocco, the two sides signed a joint communiqué on Morocco's recognition of China's market economy status.

Bilateral exchanges and cooperation in the fields of health, culture, sports, education, journalism and tourism continued to expand. In 2010, Hong Changyou, Vice Chairman of the Islamic Association of China, He Junke, Member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League of China and Vice President of the All-China Youth Federation, Lu Wei, Vice President of Xinhua News Agency, and Liu Peng, General-Director of the General Administration of Sport and President of the Chinese Olympic Committee, visited Morocco respectively. Morocco participated in the World Expo 2010 Shanghai with a national pavilion built by itself. Moroccan Minister of Culture Bensalem Himmich came to China to attend the second Arabic Arts Festival in 2010 and signed with Chinese Minister of Culture Cai Wu an executive program of the agreement of cultural cooperation between the government of China and the government of Morocco for the period 2010 through 2013. Abdel Hadi Tavi, Member of the Moroccan Royal Academy of Science and Technology, visited China.
