On December 27, 2004, Chinese President Hu Jintao entrusted Chinese State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan who was on a visit to Palestine to convey an oral message to Mahmoud Abbas, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO).

Hu highly commented that the Palestinian transitional leadership led by Abbas keeps solidarity and sincere cooperation at a critical moment and has maintained the political stability and social order in Palestine. He expressed confidence that the Palestinian people will surely surmount difficulties and ultimately restore their legitimate national rights. China hopes Palestine and Israel can solve their disputes through peaceful negotiations as soon as possible on the basis of related UN resolutions and the principle of "land for peace".

Hu also noted that the Chinese government pays close attention to the general election of Palestine and hopes the election runs smoothly. China values its traditional friendship with Palestine and stands ready to work with Palestine to constantly push forward China-Palestine relations in the new era.
