On June 14, 2007, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi held talks in the office building of the Foreign Ministry with his visiting Palestinian counterpart Ziad Abu Amr. Hailing China-Palestine traditional friendship, the Chinese Foreign Minister said that the country will continue its support for Palestinian people to resume their legitimate national rights and promote long-term bilateral friendly cooperation. China is willing to join hands with the Palestinian side to push forward the comprehensive development of bilateral relations, Yang vowed. China is concerned about the situation in the Palestinian region and, as a friend of the Palestinian people, hopes various Palestinian factions can maintain restraint, cease internal conflicts and jointly safeguard national interests, said Yang. He also urged "the concerned parties" to "jointly adopt positive measures" to establish mutual trust and create conditions to resume Palestine-Israel peace talks at an early date. China supports "the Arab peace initiative" and other peace-promoting efforts made by the international community and will play a constructive role in promoting Palestine-Israel peace talks and the overall resolution of the Middle East issue, Yang said. Abu Amr briefed Yang about the latest development in Palestine and the Palestine-Israel peace process. He also expressed appreciation of China's long-term and firm support to Palestine. The two sides also exchanged views on regional and international issues of common concern. Assistant Foreign Minister Zhai Jun, China's Special Envoy to Middle East Sun Bigan, Palestinian Ambassador to China Diab N M Allouh and other officials attended the talks.
