The year 2010 witnessed the 22nd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the People's Republic of China's and the State of Qatar. The bilateral relations developed rapidly and mutually beneficial cooperation continued to deepen.
The political ties developed in a sound manner. In April, Abdullah Bin Hamad Al-Attiyah, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy and Industry of Qatar, attended the opening ceremony of the World Expo 2010 Shanghai, and inaugurated the Qatari Pavilion. In May, Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Hamad Bin Jassim Bin Jabr Al-Thani attended the 4th Ministerial Meeting of the China-Arab Cooperation Forum in China, and met with Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao. In October, Mohamed Saleh Al-Sada, Minister of State for Energy and Industry Affairs, attended the activities celebrating the National Pavilion Day of Qatar at the Expo in Shanghai.
China and Qatar enjoyed fruitful cooperation in economy, trade and energy. In May, during Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Hamad's stay in China for the 4th Ministerial Meeting of China-Arab Cooperation Forum, China's National Energy Bureau signed with the Qatari Ministry of Energy and Industry the memorandum of understanding on energy and financing.
The two sides also had close contacts in other areas such as culture and education. In May, China's Ministry of Education sent a research delegation to Qatar to study policies and management of schools with foreign cooperation, and the two sides exchanged views on intensifying exchanges and cooperation in the field of education. Also in May, Chinese Vice Minister of Culture Ouyang Jian paid a visit to Qatar. He met with Hamad Abdulaziz Al-Kuwari, the Qatari Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage, and held talks with Ministry Secretary Mubarak Bin Nasser Al-Khalifa. At the end of May, a Chinese Culture Ministry delegation visited Qatar, and performed the dance drama "Helan under the Moon" in the national theater.
