On September 18, 2007, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met in the office building of the Foreign Ministry with Patrick Pillay, Foreign Minister of Seychelles, who is in China to attend the activities marking the opening of the Seychelles embassy in China. Yang said the China-Seychelles relationship, which is developing very well, can serve as a model of friendly cooperation between big and small countries. The opening of the Seychelles embassy in China is a great event in bilateral ties, he said, pledging to offer facilitation and support for the work of the embassy. He expressed belief that with the joint efforts of both sides, bilateral friendly ties will be further consolidated and developed. Pillay said he was satisfied with the fruitful cooperation between the two countries, expressing his country's willingness to work with China to push forward bilateral friendly ties. He reaffirmed that Seychelles supports China's position on the Taiwan question and will as always adhere to the one-China policy. Both sides also exchanged views on such issues as the implementation of the achievements made during the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Co-operation, and the reform of the UN and its Security Council. On the evening of the same day, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Zhai Jun met with Foreign Minister Pillay and gave a dinner in his honor.
