President Jiang Zemin Met With Tunisian Parliament Leader

2002/06/24

On June 19, 2002, President Jiang Zemin met with visiting Tunisian Parliament Leader Fouad Mebazaa at Zhongnanhai.

Jiang spoke positively of Sino-Tunisian friendship and cooperation, pointing to increasing contacts between the two peoples, their expanding cooperative spheres, and the further development of friendship and cooperation at all levels between the two countries in recent years including inter-parliamentary exchanges. Jiang recalled with pleasure his state visit to Tunisia in April this year and said that China is ready to strengthen coordination and cooperation in bilateral and international affairs in the current situation of political multi-polarization and economic globalization. Jiang also praised Tunisia's development path for suiting its own conditions and wished the Tunisian people new successes under the leadership of President Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali.

Parliament Leader Mebazaa thanked Jiang for his meeting. He complimented China on its remarkable progress in every field, saying that Tunisia highly appreciated it. He also said this visit would enhance understanding about China and bilateral friendly cooperation in different areas as it is based on reciprocity and mutual understanding. He noted that China, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, shoulders great responsibilities in international affairs. He hoped the two parliaments would boost mutual understanding and cooperation and strengthen coordination and cooperation on international issues.
