On June 12, 2006, Assistant Foreign Minister Cui Tiankai met with the delegation headed by President Wadah Khanfar of Al Jazeera. Cui spoke highly of the traditional friendship and friendly cooperative relations between China and Arab states, acknowledged that Al Jazeera's special report "China Week" helps increase the understanding of the Arab people of China and expressed hope that Al Jazeera strengthens communications with the Chinese media to produce more reports objectively and comprehensively introducing China's development in various fields.

Al Jazeera broadcasted the "China Week" special report from June 3 to 9, 2006. It is the first intensive report on China by an Arab media.
