It gives me great pleasure to come to Brunei Darussalam for the APEC Informal Leadership Meeting and a state visit to your country at the invitation of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam. I wish to take this opportunity to convey, on behalf of the Chinese Government and people and in my own name, our cordial greetings and best wishes to His Majesty and the Brunei people.
China and Brunei are friendly neighbors bordering on the same sea. The two peoples enjoy a time-honored traditional friendship. In the long-running history of friendly exchanges that date back to more than a thousand years ago, the two peoples have forged a profound friendship. Thanks to the concerted efforts by both sides, gratifying progress has been made in our bilateral relations since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Brunei in 1991. The friendly relations and cooperation between us in various fields are gradually growing and gathering momentum. During the current visit, I will, in the spirit of building on the past and forging ahead in the future, have an in-depth exchange of views with His Majesty on ways to carry forward the traditional friendship between our two peoples and to promote an all-round development of China-Brunei relations. I am convinced that with the joint efforts by the two sides, we will write a more splendid chapter into the annals of China-Brunei relations in the new century. May His Majesty enjoy good health. May Brunei Darussalam enjoy prosperity and its people well-being. May Brunei Darussalam succeed in hosting the APEC informal Leadership Meeting.
