Premier Wen Jiabao Meets with Leaders of Cambodian National Assembly and Senate

On April 8, Premier Wen Jiabao of the State Council met respectively with Cambodian National Assembly President Heng Samrin and Senate President Chea Sim in Phnom Penh.

Wen said that bilateral friendship jointly created and carefully cultivated by the older generations of leaderships of both countries has been deeply rooted in the hearts of people and continuously carried forward. History has proven and will continue to prove that both sides are good friends that rely on each other, as well as good partners in sincere cooperation. China would like to continue working with Cambodia to deepen friendship and cooperation and realize common development.

Wen pointed out that exchanges between parliaments and parties of the two countries are an important part of bilateral relations. The Cambodian National Assembly and Senate have done enormous useful work for pushing for development of bilateral relations, which China appreciates. The National People's of Congress (NPC) of China and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) would like to strengthen close exchanges and cooperation with the Cambodian National Assembly and Senate. It is hoped that the Cambodian National Assembly and Senate will continue to support both countries to develop friendly cooperative relations of long-term stability.

Wen indicated that for a long period of time China has offered Cambodia some disinterested mutual assistance within its available resources and China thanks Cambodia, especially its National Assembly and Senate, for resolutely pursuing the one-China policy and supporting China's grand cause of peaceful reunification over the years.

Heng Samrin and Chea Sim said that both countries share close friendly relations and the Cambodian people cherish bilateral traditional friendship, thank for China's precious support and assistance and wish the Chinese people greater achievements in the grand cause of realizing modernization. The Cambodian National Assembly and Senate resolutely support developing relations with China, as well as China's grand cause of peaceful reunification and would like to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the NPC of China and the CPPCC and make greater contributions to promoting development of bilateral relations.

On the morning of the same day, Wen also laid a wreath at Cambodia's Monument to Independence.
