The two sides exchanged views on China-Cambodia relations as well as other issues of common interest. Wen Jiabao said China and Cambodia are good neighbors and partners with mutual trust. The reason for the steady development of bilateral relations over the years lies in the fact that the two countries can trust each other politically, conduct mutually-beneficial cooperation economically and remain committed to peace, stability and development in international affairs. In the new century, the major orientations of China-Cambodia relations are good neighborliness and mutual trust, mutually-beneficial cooperation and common development . The Chinese government will uphold the guideline of friendship and partnership with our neighboring countries and adhere to the policy of "good relations of neighbourhood, peaceful coexistence and common prosperity with neighbourhood " so as to strengthen friendly cooperation in various fields with Cambodia and actively push forward bilateral relations to go all-round, in-depth and high-level. To this end, the Chinese side suggests: First, to bring closer top-level exchanges with a view to further consolidating the basis for political relations between the two countries; Second, to tap new areas for economic and trade cooperation and conduct various forms of collaboration in infrastructure construction, communications, agriculture and resources development; Third, to expand exchanges in all sectors so as to achieve greater progress, such as in sectors of culture, education, sports and tourism; Fourth, to strengthen regional cooperation and enhance coordination and collaboration in the building of ASEAN Free Trade Area as well as the development of the Greater Mekong River Sub-region. Wen Jiabao thanked the Cambodian government for its consistent adherence to the one-China policy and its firm support for China's peaceful reunification. He also expressed his appreciation to the Cambodian government for making several statements opposing the separatist activities aimed for "Taiwan independence" by the Taiwan authorities. Wen Jiabao indicated at the end of the talks that as a friendly close neighbor and friend of Cambodia, China would like to see political stability and economic development in the country. The Chinese government will, as always, support the efforts made by the Cambodian government to maintain national stability, promote ethnic unity and boost economic development. China supports Cambodia to pursue an independent and self-reliant development path. Hun Sen noted that the Cambodian government and people think highly of the tremendous achievements China has scored in economic and social development. He said the development and growth of China not only complies with the interests of the Chinese people, but also helps promote the development and prosperity of countries in the neighboring region and the Greater Mekong River Basin. Hun Sen said Cambodia regards China a long-term strategic friend and developing cooperation with China is an important orientation in Cambodian foreign policy. Cambodia sings high praise for and thanks China for the precious and selfless assistance it has offered to Cambodia over the years. Cambodia will continue to support China on a series of important issues that involve China's sovereignty and interests.
