On Sept. 26, 2013, Li Keqiang, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Premier of the State Council, met with Choummaly Saygnasone, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP) and President of Laos.
Li Keqiang said that at present, the relations between the two parties and the two countries are being strengthened unceasingly and the exchanges and cooperation in all fields are being promoted in a down-to-earth manner. General Secretary Xi Jinping has held fruitful talks with you. China is ready to keep close high-level exchanges with Laos, to boost cooperation in the fields of trade, investment and infrastructure, to expand people-to-people, cultural and local exchanges, so as to push for the sustained development of China-Laos comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.
Li Keqiang expressed that the eighth round of Meetings of East Asian Leaders will be held soon. China looks forward to discussing with participating countries plans for regional peace, development and cooperation. Over the ten years since the establishment of China-ASEAN strategic partnership, cooperation has yielded fruitful outcomes. All countries and the people in the region have benefited from it. Pursuing the policy of good-neighbourly friendship towards ASEAN is a strategic choice China has long adhered to. We are ready to enhance mutual trust and deepen cooperation with ASEAN countries to upgrade the China-ASEAN FTA, to push forward connectivity construction, to strengthen financial cooperation, to join hands carrying out maritime cooperation, so as to make China-ASEAN relations achieve greater development. Hope Laos will as always play a positive role in strengthening China-ASEAN relations.
Choummaly Saygnasone said that under the correct leadership of the CPC and the Chinese government, the sustained, healthy development of the Chinese economy has made important contributions to the global economic recovery. Laos is grateful for China's long-time selfless support as well as help and is satisfied with the outcomes of bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation in recent years. Hope both sides will, in accordance with their respective development plans, accelerate pushing forward cooperation on the Laos-China railway and other major projects. More Chinese businesses are welcomed to invest and develop in Laos. The Lao side is ready to work with China to push for the unceasing uplifting of Laos-China relations and ASEAN-China relations to new highs.
