Wu Bangguo Meets with Prime Minister of Myanmar

On July 13, 2004, Chairman Wu Bangguo of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress met with Prime Minister Khin Nyunt of the Union of Myanmar at the Great Hall of the People. Wu Bangguo made positive comments on China-Myanmar relations. He noted that China is committed to developing good-neighborly and friendly relations of cooperation with Myanmar and there isn't any outstanding issue existing between the two countries. To consolidate the traditional friendship and deepen the mutually beneficial cooperation conforms not only to the interests of the two peoples but also to the regional peace and stability. China will as always continue to follow the friendly policies towards Myanmar and constantly promote relations between the two countries towards deepened development. The two sides briefed each other on their respective domestic situations. Wu Bangguo said that both China and Myanmar are facing the task of rejuvenating their economy and improving the livelihood of the people. Practice has shown that to realize development, countries must follow a path that suits their respective national contexts. China and Myanmar can enhance exchanges and learn from each other. China believes that people of Myanmar will be able to overcome the difficulties and problems lying ahead on that path and build a better Myanmar in the future. Khin Nyunt said that the friendly and cooperative relations between Myanmar and China have been founded with the joint efforts of the older generations of leadership and Myanmar attaches great importance to cooperation with China. He said that through the visit he hoped to learn from China's experience in development, carry forward the traditional friendship and cooperation between the two countries and promote the development of the bilateral relations in an all-round manner. During the visit, the two sides have reached broad consensus. It is therefore believed that Myanmar-China cooperation will be upgraded to a higher level with the joint efforts of the two sides.
