Special Envoy of the Chinese Government Visits Injured Chinese Engineer in Pakistan

On December 29, 2008, He Yafei, the special envoy of the Chinese government and Vice Chinese Foreign Minister, arrived at Islamabad Shifa International Hospital together with officials of Pakistan's Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the local Chinese embassy for a visit to the Chinese engineer who was wounded in an attack in Pakistan.

Having listened carefully to the introduction of the wound of the engineer, He Yafei asked him to take care of himself and expressed gratitude to the Pakistani side for its help and sympathy.

Chairman of the CDA Kamran Lashari expressed regret for the attack on the Chinese engineer and hope for his early recovery. Pakistan's Interior Secretary Syed Kamal Shah said that Pakistan is ready to offer all the necessary medical treatment to the injured.

The Chinese side especially dispatched a domestic doctor to Pakistan to assess the injury of the engineer. It is said that the vital signs of the injured remain stable at present, but a bullet inside his body is yet to be taken out. It is estimated that the next operation will be conducted after he feels better.

The Chinese engineer who had worked for the hydropower project of Harbin Power Engineering Company in Malakand area of North West Frontier Province of Pakistan was wounded in an attack by unidentified gunmen on December 24.

He Yafei arrived at Islamabad on the evening of December 28, kicking off his visit to Pakistan.
