Yang Jiechi Holds Talks with Thai Foreign Minister

On March 25, 2009, visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi held talks with his Thai counterpart Kasit Piromya in Bangkok. Both sides exchanged views on further strengthening Sino-Thai relationship and East Asian cooperation and reached broad consensus. During the meeting, Yang said Chin and Thailand enjoy a firm basis of mutually beneficial cooperation and both sides have continuously expanded the area of cooperation and achieved noticeable results. Both countries have maintained close communication and coordination in international and regional affairs. China is ready to work with Thailand to maintain the momentum of high-level visits and enhance cooperation in the economic and trade sector, in a bid to achieve mutual benefits and win-win results and further promote their strategic cooperation. Yang also noted that in the context of the international financial crisis, China is ready to join hands with the ASEAN countries to strengthen pragmatic cooperation in all areas and jointly turn crisis into opportunity. Kasit said the two countries enjoy mutual understanding and profound friendship and have maintained close cooperation in bilateral, regional and multilateral fields. Thailand is ready to further advance strategic cooperation with China, maintain high-level exchanges and strengthen consultation and coordination in international and regional affairs. He reaffirmed that Thailand sticks to the one-China policy on the Taiwan and Tibet issues. The ASEAN is ready to work with China to jointly tackle the global financial crisis, added Kasit.
