On April 17, 2009, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Wang Guangya met in the Foreign Ministry with visiting Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minster Doan Xuan Hung. Both sides exchanged views on the preparations of the 9th ASEM Foreign Ministers' Meeting to be held in Hanoi, Vietnam in May this year.

During the meeting, Wang made positive comments on China-Vietnam friendly relations and bilateral cooperation within the framework of ASEM, saying that the 9th ASEM Foreign Ministers' Meeting is an important meeting of pivotal significance after the seventh Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) summit last year. China is ready to enhance communication with Vietnam and offer full support to Vietnam for the success of the meeting.

Doan Xuan Hung introduced the preparations of the 9th ASEM Foreign Ministers' Meeting, emphasizing that Vietnam attaches importance to China's role and status in ASEM and hopes to gain strong support from China to push the meeting towards pragmatic outcome.
