Chinese and Vietnamese Governments Sign Land Border Demarcation Documents

On November 18, 2009, the signing ceremony of China-Vietnam land board demarcation documents was held in Beijing, marking the completion of land border demarcation between China and Vietnam after ten years of efforts of both countries. The two sides signed the China-Vietnam Land Border Demarcation Protocol and its appendix map, the China-Vietnam Land Border Management System Agreement and the China-Vietnam Land Border Port and Management System Agreement. Vice Foreign Minister Wu Dawei and his Vietnamese counterpart Ho Xuan Son signed the documents on behalf of the Chinese and Vietnamese governments respectively. Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi attended the signing ceremony prior to which he also met with the Chinese and Vietnamese delegations.

Earlier, Wu Dawei and Ho Xuan Son held talks on the land boarder and maritime issues between the two countries. Both leaders agreed to comprehensively strengthen coordination and cooperation on land border related issues and be committed to the long-term stability and tranquility along the borderline and common development. They reiterated to make efforts to resolve the maritime issues through diplomatic negotiations. They agreed to work closely to maintain peace and stability of South China Sea and launch consultations in order to enter into agreement on the basic principles guiding the solution of maritime issues between the two sides.
