Wen Jiabao Visits Former Cambodian King Norodom Sihanouk and His Wife Monineath

On February 10, 2008, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao called on former Cambodian King Norodom Sihanouk and his wife Monineath in Beijing and extended them the Lunar New Year greetings.

Wen highly appreciated former King Sihanouk and his wife for their outstanding contributions to promoting China-Cambodia friendship. He thanked for their donations to China for disasters relief in snow stricken areas. Wen said this indicated the profound friendship to the Chinese people. Currently under the leadership of the CPC and Chinese government, the people in snow-stricken areas are making joint efforts in combating the protracted bad weather. The premier expressed his confidence that the Chinese people could win the fight against the snow disasters.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations and is a year of China-Cambodia Friendship. China would work with Cambodia to carry forward traditional friendship and increase bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation to benefit the two peoples, Wen noted.

Sihanouk said the Cambodian people always hold profound friendship towards the Chinese people. He noted that the Cambodian royal family, government and people sincerely admire and congratulate China's achievements, and wish China greater prosperity. Sihanouk also thanked China for offering support and help to Cambodia's development. He hoped that the Cambodia-China traditional friendship and cooperation would achieve constant progress.

On the recent snow havoc in southern parts of China, Sihanouk said President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao had visited the snow stricken areas to instruct the disasters relief work, and expressed sympathy and solicitude to the people there. The people in the snow stricken areas had shown the utmost fortitude to combat disasters. Sihanouk said he was deeply moved. Sihanouk noted that he believed the Chinese people would definitely win the fight against the snow havoc under the leadership of the Chinese government.
