Assistant Foreign Minister He Yafei Meets with Representatives of Delegation of 100 Young People from India

On June 30, 2008, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister He Yafei met with major members of a visiting delegation of 100 young people from India.

He welcomed the delegation's visit to China, saying that China-India relations have maintained a sound momentum of all-round development in recent years with frequent contacts and exchanges of visits between leaders of the two countries, deepening political trust and expanding economic and trade cooperation. The leaders of the two countries share strong aspiration to develop bilateral ties and believe that Asia and the world have enough space for common development of the two countries. He said youth are the future hope of a country. To enhance exchanges and build up understanding between the youth is conducive to achieving common development of the two countries. He expressed hope that during their visit, the young representatives will engage with people from all walks of life and gain an all-round understanding of China, so as to make positive contributions to China-India friendship.

Head of the delegation, S. K. Arora, also Secretary of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, said both India and China have a time-honored history and splendid culture and the friendly exchanges between the two countries go back to ancient times. The already-established strategic cooperative partnership is full of vigor and vitality. Both sides should further strengthen exchanges in all areas, especially in the fields of humanities and ideology, and learn from each other for common progress. He expressed hope that the youth will become a friendship messenger and play a positive role in building mutual understanding between the two countries. Arora expressed condolences and sympathy to the Chinese government and people over the devastating earthquake that hit China's Sichuan province and wished the Beijing Olympic Games every success.

He also exchanged views with the young Indian representatives on the new international order and other issues.

During his visit to India in 2006, Chinese President Hu Jintao announced that the Chinese side would invite 500 Indian youth to visit China within the next five years. This is the second delegation of Indian youth invited by the All-China Youth Federation according to the instruction of President Hu.
