The Leaders of China, Japan and the Republic of Korean Have a Brief Meeting

On April 11, 2009, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao of the State Council, Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso, President Lee Myung-bak of the Republic of Korea (ROK) had a brief meeting in Pattaya, Thailand.

The leaders of the three countries agreed to strengthen the tripartite cooperation among China, Japan and the Republic of Korea (CJK) and promote the cooperation between CJK and ASEAN. The leaders also looked forward to the second summit of China, Japan and the Republic of Korea to be held later this year in China.

The three parties also discussed the recent rocket launch by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea DPRK). Wen said that the issue should be discussed out of the consideration for the maintenance of the six-party talks, the maintenance of peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and in Northeast Asia. Any action that may further complicate the situation should be avoided. Prime Minister Aso and President Lee Myung-bak also agreed. The three parties unanimously reaffirmed that the denuclearization of the peninsula should be realized through the six-party talks.
