On June 16, 2009, Song Tao, official of the Chinese foreign ministry, held a cordial meeting with the delegation of the Philippine association of promoting peaceful reunification of China headed by Wu Zhongzhen in the Olive Hall of the foreign ministry.

Song spoke highly of the efforts of the association in promoting China's reunification undertaking and the cross-Strait relations, introduced the latest development of the cross-Strait relations and encouraged the association to make greater contributions to promoting the peaceful development of relations across the Taiwan Strait and China's reunification undertaking. He reviewed his contacts with the overseas Chinese in the Philippines when he was the Chinese ambassador to the country and expressed sincere hope that the overseas Chinese can integrate their own development with the social and economic progress of the Philippines and play a better role of bridge to promote the development of the bilateral friendly relations.

The delegation thanked Song for arranging the meeting and expressed willingness of making unswerving efforts to promote the reunification undertaking of China and the friendly cooperation between the Philippines and China.
