Hu Zhengyue Meets with 100-member Indian Youth Delegation

On June 16, 2009, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Hu Zhengyue met in the Foreign Ministry with head of the visiting 100-member Indian youth delegation Mr. Arun Yadav, also Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, as well as major members of his delegation. Hu expressed welcome to Yadav and the Indian youth delegation, hailing the sound momentum in the development of bilateral ties. President Hu Jintao met with Indian Prime Minister Singh on the sidelines of the first BRIC summit in Russia, reaching important consensus on the development of bilateral ties. Cultural and youth exchanges are an important part of bilateral ties, said the assistant foreign minister, expressing hope that during their visit, the delegation members will engage broadly with people from all walks of life and gain an all-round understanding of China, in a bid to contribute to China-India friendship. Yadav said that India-China relations have made important progress in recent years and both countries have established strategic cooperative partnership. The annual exchange of visits by 100-member youth delegations from both countries is an important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, which is conducive to enhancing bilateral friendly cooperation. He expressed hope that the current visit may help the Indian delegation better understand the function of China's volunteer social service and enhance bilateral exchanges in the fields of youth, culture and sports. During his visit to India in 2006, Chinese President Hu Jintao announced that the Chinese side would invite 500 Indian youth to visit China within the next five years. This is the third delegation of Indian youth invited by the All-China Youth Federation according to the instruction of President Hu. .
