Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung Meets with Tang Jiaxuan
On February 23, 2011, Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung met with visiting former Chinese State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan in Hanoi.
Tang made positive comments on Vietnam's development achievements and congratulated the country on the success of the 11th National Party Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV). He believed that under the leadership of the CPV and the Vietnamese government, the Vietnamese people will surely fulfill the goals set at the 11th National Party Congress.
Tang said China-Vietnam relations have achieved sound development in recent years in general, which has brought about important benefits to both peoples and also promoted regional peace, stability and development. To well safeguard and develop China-Vietnam relations is conducive to the fundamental and long-term interests of both countries. Under the current international and regional situation which is undergoing profound changes, both sides should firmly grasp the correct direction of bilateral ties from a strategic and long-term perspective based on the spirit of being responsible to the history and people and remain committed to consolidating China-Vietnam friendship. Both sides should unswervingly advance mutually beneficial cooperation, properly resolve the existing issues through friendly consultations and push bilateral ties to a high level.
Nguyen Tan Dung said Vietnam attaches importance to developing ties with China and takes it as a priority of foreign relations. Vietnam is ready to work with China to strengthen friendly exchanges, expand mutually beneficial cooperation and push for long-term sound and stable development of bilateral ties.
Tang and his delegation started the visit to Vietnam on February 22 at the invitation of Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem. Director of the Councillors' Office of the State Council Chen Jinyu, Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam Sun Guoxiang and other officials attended the meeting.
