On March 8 2005, President Hu Jintao of the People's Republic of China announced the appointment of the following new ambassador in accordance with a decision made by the National Peoples Congress Standing Committee.

Zhou Wenzhong was appointed the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United States of America, replacing Yang Jiechi.
