Huang Ju Meets With Luxembourg's Grand Duke Henri and Holds Talks With Its Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker

On November 14, 2004, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee & Vice Premier of the State Council Huang Ju, who was on his official visit to Luxembourg, met with Luxembourg's Grand Duke Henri and held talks with its Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker. The two sides exchanged views on bilateral issues and other matters in a cordial and friendly atmosphere. When Meeting with Henri, Huang Ju said that since the establishment of China- Luxembourg diplomatic ties 32 years ago the relations between the two countries have developed rapidly, mutual understanding and trust are continuously strengthened, economic and trade cooperation is getting closer and cooperation in cultural, scientific and technological areas is fruitful. Huang Ju pointed out that Luxembourg, as a founding member of the European Union (EU), plays a unique role in international and regional affairs and China would like to work together with it to expand and deepen mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields. Henri highly commented the smooth development of Luxembourg-China ties in recent years. He noted hat his country attaches great importance to Luxembourg-China ties and hopes the two sides can take earnest measures in a bid to push for the continuous progress of mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields. Henri expressed his admiration and congratulations upon the important achievements the Chinese government, while leading its people, has scored in running the state and developing the economy. During their talks, Huang Ju and Juncker exchanged views mainly on promoting economic and trade cooperation. Huang Ju made the following proposals. First, the two sides should deepen bilateral cooperation in high-tech area and China welcomes Luxembourg to cooperate with Chinese steel and iron enterprises to improve the technology and industrial mix of this sector in China. Secondly, The two side should strengthen fiscal and financial cooperation and financial institutions of Luxembourg may enhance financial cooperation with China through various approaches such as personnel training, enterprise investment and the establishment of branch agencies, Thirdly, the two sides should conduct cooperation on China's western development and the revitalization of old industrial bases in its northeastern part and China will provide support and facilitation for enterprises of Luxembourg to invest and prosper their businesses in China , Juncker said that China's economy is full of vitality, conducting economic and trade cooperation with China is a formal decision made by the government of Luxembourg, and economic and trade cooperation between our two countries is satisfactory and enjoys promising prospects. He agrees to Huang Ju's proposals and indicated that Luxembourg stands ready to introduce to China its experience at developing the steel, iron and metallurgical industries and carry out exchanges and cooperation with China in financial management, legislation and personnel training. The government of Luxembourg also encourages its businesses to invest in the western part of China. The two sides also exchanged views on the international financial situation and agree to strengthen communication in this area and jointly commit to the world economic development. Huang Ju arrived in Luxembourg on the afternoon of the same day (local time) to start his official visit.
