On the morning of November 8, 2006, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council Huang Ju met in Shanghai with Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, who was here in China for the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), as well as a state visit to the country.

Huang extended welcome for Bouteflika's attendance at the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and his visit to China. China and Algeria, which share a special friendship, have been cultivating a friendly relationship featuring mutual trust, sincere cooperation and mutual benefit and have jointly safeguarded the just rights and interests of developing nations since they forged diplomatic relations half a century ago, Huang said. Hailing this year as a year of friendship between China and Algeria, Huang said both sides have kept closer exchanges in all areas and at various levels with outstanding achievements. The just-concluded Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) has injected new vitality into the China-Algeria ties, said the Chinese Vice Premier.   He said that the leaders of China and Algeria held sincere and in-depth talks on deepening strategic cooperation during the FOCAC which resulted in a statement on developing strategic cooperative relations and a series of agreements in economic, tax, quality inspection, judicial and oil an gas exploration fields. All this helps lay a solid foundation for strengthening friendly cooperation and economic and trade exchanges between the two countries, Huang added.

The Chinese government is ready to work with Algeria to actively implement the important consensus reached between the two leaders during their meeting, build up political friendship, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, strengthen effective cooperation in international affairs and push for in-depth development of strategic cooperation, Huang noted.

Bouteflika spoke positively about the Algeria-China ties, reiterated Algeria's persistent position and expressed thanks for the Chinese side's warm hospitality.

Han Zheng, Acting Secretary of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) & Mayor of Shanghai, and other officials attended the meeting.
