Chinese Vice Premier Wu Yi Meets with Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Dmitri Medvedev

On June 9, 2007, Chinese Vice Premier Wu Yi of the State Council met with Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Dmitri Medvedev in St. Petersburg.

Wu said that the heads of state of China and Russia had a meeting in Moscow this March, making plans for bilateral relationship in the coming decade and identifying 5 major objectives and tasks: politically, being sincere partners trusting each other; economically, being partners enjoying mutual benefit and win-win cooperation; scientifically and technologically, being partners for common innovation; culturally, being friendly partners co-existing in harmony; and being partners enjoying solidarity and mutual help in the security front. With the strong push of the two heads of state, bilateral ties have been growing fast, with high-level exchange getting amazingly robust and economic and trade cooperation advancing rapidly.

Wu said that China-Russia strategic partnership of coordination has entered the second decade. 2007 is the Year of China in Russia, which presents an important opportunity for further growth of bilateral relationship. China is willing to work together with Russia to take advantage of the Year of China to advance bilateral relationship to new levels. Wu hoped that the two sides could make persistent efforts to ensure the smooth operation of the activities related to the Year of China in Russia. She hoped that the event could achieve a complete success and the two sides could consolidate the social foundation for lasting friendship between the people and push for great progress in key areas of cooperation and the cooperation between the local regions through this event.

Medvedev said that Russia-China relations are moving forward smoothly and the Russian side is happy with the current development and confident in the future. The diversified activities related to the Year of China aroused significant response in Russia. Russia will work closely with China to make the Year of China a success and push for further growth of bilateral ties.

On the same day, Wu also attended the opening ceremony of "Shanghai Week", one of the activities related to the Year of China, the inauguration ceremony of the business center called the Pearl of Baltic Sea constructed by Shanghai Industrial Investment (Holdings) Co., Limited, the celebration for the 10th anniversary of Huawei's presence in Russia and the opening ceremony of the representative office of the Export-Import Bank of China in St. Petersburg.
