Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Yesui Meets with Senior African Diplomats Delegation

2007/08/17

On August 17, 2007, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Yesui met in Diaoyutai State Guesthouse with a delegation of senior African diplomats. The delegation, the 12th of its kind, is visiting China at the invitation of Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs.

Zhang spoke highly of the positive progress in the African situation in recent years, adding that the Chinese government has always attached importance to developing ties with the continent. He hailed the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) held last November as a new milestone in the history of China-Africa ties. Both sides have officially established their new strategic partnership and reached important consensus on strengthening all-round, multi-field cooperation of mutual benefit in the next three years, he said. This September, foreign ministers from China and African countries will hold their first political consultation at the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN). The Chinese government is seriously implementing the eight policy measures announced by President Hu Jintao at the Beijing Summit on pragmatic cooperation with Africa, to push for China-Africa friendly cooperation.

On behalf of all members, the delegation head, who is from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tanzania, made positive comments on and expressed thanks for China's efforts for Africa's development, reaffirming that African countries will continue to unswervingly adhere to the one-China policy and support China's peaceful reunification.
