The campaign is a major event in the history of bilateral relations. Over the past two years China and Russia have worked closely and organized more than 500 activities of the China Year and the Russia Year successfully covering various aspects of political, economic, trade, scientific, technological, educational, cultural, military and local cooperation. The great achievements of the China Year and the Russia Year have boosted the bilateral pragmatic cooperation in all fields, deepened the political mutual trust and injected strong dynamism into the bilateral strategic partnership.

During the China Year and the Russia Year, the frequency of meetings between the leaders of the two countries has hit a historical high and plans for the development of China-Russia strategic partnership in the next decade have been worked out. The mutual trust and strategic coordination have increased considerably. Secondly, within the framework of the China Year and the Russia Year, the two countries held a number of economic cooperation activities including the Business Summit Forum, national exhibition and investment promotion and achieved breakthroughs of pragmatic cooperation in the fields of trade, investment and energy. Thirdly, the bilateral cultural, educational, health, sports, tourism and media exchanges and cooperation remain highly active, which has consolidated the social foundation of China-Russia strategic partnership. Fourth, taking the opportunities of holding the China Year and the Russia Year, the local exchanges are very dynamic. 80 Russian federal subjects and 22 Chinese provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions participated in the China Year and the Russia Year activities. The deepening and expanding local cooperation has become a bright spot of bilateral relations. The rapid growth of local cooperation will stimulate China-Russia economic cooperation and the friendship between the people and deepen the connotation of China-Russia strategic partnership, noted Wu.

Medvedev said that the China Year and the Russia Year are unprecedented events in the history of bilateral relations and major actions to deepen the bilateral strategic partnership in an all-round way. The events demonstrate the resolute determination of the heads of state of China and Russia to advance the sustainable, healthy and stable development of bilateral ties and the common aspiration of building friendship from generation to generation, strengthening cooperation and seeking common development of the two peoples. Covering a wide range of areas, the activities of the China Year and the Russia Year have enhanced the mutual understanding and traditional friendship between the Chinese and Russian people and expanded the bilateral pragmatic cooperation especially in such key areas as economy and trade, energy, science and technology.

He added that the success of the China Year and the Russia Year should be attributed to the close cooperation of both countries. Russia will make every effort together with China to ensure the success of the closing ceremony of the China Year and the second China-Russia Business Summit Forum so as to push the events to another peak.

The two leaders agreed that as unprecedented events in the history of bilateral relations the China Year and the Russia Year have explored some effective cooperation forms. Both countries should carefully review the successful experience of the China Year and the Russia Year and institutionalize the most effective cooperation mechanism in a bid to build a new platform for the future development of bilateral relations and cooperation in various fields.
