On November 13, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Dai Bingguo met with Kabinga Pande, Zambia's minister of foreign affairs and vice president of the Movement for Multi-party Democracy (MMD), who is visiting China at the invitation of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee. During the meeting, Dai said Zambia is the first country in southern Africa to forge diplomatic ties with China. Over the past 43 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties, bilateral friendship has withstood the tests of time and has become a model for China-Africa friendly cooperation, he said. China attaches importance to its traditional friendship with Zambia and will work with it to actively implement the consensus between the leaders of both countries on furthering bilateral ties, so as to push their friendly cooperation to a new level, he added. Pande reaffirmed Zambia's adherence to the one-China policy, saying that he looked forward to working closely with the Chinese side to consolidate the existing friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries.
