Political director-generals from the foreign ministries of the six countries including China, the United States, Russia, Britain, France and Germany met in Paris on December 1, 2007. Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister He Yafei attended the meeting upon invitation. The meeting mainly discussed the current situation of the Iranian nuclear issue and the work in the next phase.

He emphasized that it is in the common interest of the international community to seek a peaceful solution to the Iranian nuclear issue through diplomatic negotiations and to safeguard peace and stability of the Middle East. The actions of the UN Security Council should be helpful to fulfill these targets. He expressed hope that all parties concerned will continue to remain committed to diplomatic efforts and seek a long-term, comprehensive and proper settlement of the issue.
