Vice Foreign Minister Dai Bingguo Meets with Libyan President Gaddafi's Special Envoy Siala

On January 23, 2008, Vice Foreign Minister Dai Bingguo met in Diaoyutai State Guesthouse with Libyan President Gaddafi's special envoy Siala. Both sides exchanged opinions on China-Libya relations and the issues of common interest.

Dai said that the political relations between China and Libya remain sound in recent years. The two countries enjoy frequent exchanges at various levels, ever expanding mutually beneficial cooperation and wide consensus on the major international and regional issues. The Chinese government attaches importance to its relations with Libya and expects to make joint efforts with the country to keep the positive development momentum of bilateral ties and promote the development of bilateral friendly and cooperative relations. He introduced the current situation across the Taiwan Straits and expressed admiration for Libya's adherence to the one-China position.

Siala noted that the Libyan side is willing to advance the friendly relations with China, broaden the bilateral exchanges and cooperation in the fields of economy and trade and welcomes more Chinese companies to participate in its construction. The special envoy also reiterated that Libya would continue to resolutely follow the one-China policy.
