On January 28, 2008, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister He Yafei met in the office building of the Chinese Foreign Ministry with Anatoly Antonov, the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry's department for security and disarmament affairs, who is here for China-Russia consultation on arms control and anti-proliferation. He Yafei expressed welcome for Antonov's visit, saying that recent years have witnessed smooth development of China-Russia relations and deepening cooperation on politics, economy and trade, humanities and science and technology. The two countries have maintained sound coordination and cooperation on many key arms control and anti-proliferation issues, he said, expressing hope that both sides will continue to strengthen such cooperation in the future. Agreeing with He's comments on bilateral ties, Antonov said Russia looks forward to further enhancing communication and coordination with China in the field of security and arms control.

Both sides also exchanged views on arms control, disarmament and regional nuclear issues.
