Wen said China attaches importance to ties with Nigeria and deems it an important cooperative partner of China in Africa. As two developing nations, China and Nigeria are making relentless efforts to push forward economic and social development. Keeping closer China-Nigeria relations is conducive to both sides and is also of great significance to enhancing South-South cooperation. China is ready to work with Nigeria to continue deepening bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation.

Wen pointed out that recent years have witnessed effective cooperation between both sides in energy, telecommunication and other areas. He expressed hope that both sides will work out plans, tap potential and expand cooperation into the areas of agriculture, infrastructure and manufacturing.

Wen said currently African countries are striving to explore development paths suitable to their national conditions and have yielded positive results, which China is pleased with. China's assistance to Africa was purely selfless, and only aimed to help Africa enhance capacity for self-development, Wen told Yar'Adua. China would continue to work with African countries, including Nigeria, to comprehensively implement the Follow-up Action of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation for the benefit of Chinese and African peoples.

Yar'Adua said the people of the two countries share a fraternal friendship with bilateral relations developing smoothly. Both sides have continuously expanded and deepened sound cooperation in bilateral relations and multilateral areas and there is broad prospect for cooperation. Yar'Adua said to continue expanding mutually beneficial cooperation with China will help Nigeria achieve the goals of economic growth. Nigeria is ready to work with China to expand bilateral pragmatic cooperation and welcomes Chinese businesses to actively participate in Nigeria's exploitation of oil and gas resources and infrastructure construction so as to push Nigeria-China strategic partnership to one new level after another.
