On March 20, 2008, Vice Foreign Minister Li Jinzhang met with Fernando Remirez, Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee and Director of its International Relations Committee, who is visiting China at the invitation of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee. Both sides exchanged views on bilateral ties and issues of mutual concern.

Li spoke highly of the positive progress that China-Cuba relations have made in recent years, saying that China is ready to make joint efforts with Cuba to push for in-depth development of bilateral friendly cooperation of mutual benefits. Remirez said Cuba attaches great importance to developing ties with China and will continue to firmly support the Chinese government's position on the Taiwan, Tibet and human rights questions.
