The 14th China-ASEAN Senior Officials' Consultation Held in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei

From March 26 to 28, 2008, the 14th China-ASEAN Senior Officials' Consultation was held in Bandar Seri Begawan, capital of Brunei. Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Wu Hongbo and senior officials and representatives from the Foreign Ministries of the 10 ASEAN countries, as well as the Deputy Secretary-General of the ASEAN attended the meeting. The meeting was co-chaired by Wu and Pengiran Dato Paduka Osman Patra, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Brunei Darussalam. It reviewed the past year's progress in China-ASEAN relations and focused on discussing further implementation of the consensus reached at the China-ASEAN summit last year and strengthening proposals and measures to deepen the strategic partnership for peace and prosperity between China and ASEAN. The two sides also exchanged in-depth views on their development situations and East Asian cooperation as well as international and regional issues of common concern. In addition, all parties concerned exchanged views on jointly implementing follow-up actions of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea.
