On May 9, 2008, Vice Foreign Minister Li Jinzhang addressed the first plenary conference of China International Human Rights Law National Commission. He extended congratulations on the establishment of the National Commission and its first conference and pointed out that it demonstrated the importance the Chinese government attaches to international human rights law and would push for more outcomes of study, dissemination and implementation of the international human rights law in China. He also noted that the foreign ministry would make continuous efforts to work with related departments to support the work of the Commission.

The conference was chaired by Executive Vice President Jiang Yiman of the Red Cross Society of China (RCSC). President Peng Peiyun of the RCSC delivered an important speech. Officials of the RCSC members and the East Asia representative office of the International Committee of the Red Cross were also present at the conference.
