Dai Bingguo Meets with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Negroponte

On May 12, 2008, Chinese State Councilor Dai Bingguo met with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State John D. Negroponte in Zhongnanhai, exchanging views on Sino-U.S. relations and issues of common concern.

Dai said the dialogue had seen fruitful discussions on the major and strategic issues concerning bilateral ties since it was launched. Dai said he hoped the two sides continue to make joint efforts to promote the Sino-U.S. strategic dialogue mechanism, in a bid to enhance mutual trust and cooperation.

Negroponte said the U.S. side hoped that the dialogue could be held within this year, adding the country was ready to sum up previous experiences of the dialogue and carry forward the mechanism.
