Vice Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with the East African Community (EAC) delegation headed by Ugandan First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the East African Community Affairs Kategaya on May 13, 2008.

Kategaya first of all expressed sincere condolence on the huge losses of life and property caused by the massive earthquake hitting Wenchuan county of Sichuan province on May 12. Wang expressed gratitude to Kategaya, briefly introduced the disaster relief efforts of the Chinese government and said that the Chinese government and people are capable of recovering from the disaster.

Kategaya introduced basic information about the EAC, its integration process and future development goals and noted that the EAC hopes actively explore potential cooperation with the Chinese government and enterprises in such field as infrastructure.

Wang expressed admiration on the achievements of integration of the EAC, saying that China supports the efforts of the EAC to seek collective development and is willing to continue to strengthen the bilateral cooperation with the EAC members under the framework of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation and actively explore cooperation with the EAC.
