On May 26, 2008, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Wu Hongbo met with a visiting delegation headed by Director General of the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) Maxim Minchev in the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

Minchev first extended condolences to the victims of the Wenchuan earthquake, expressing belief that the Chinese government and people will win the fight against the disaster and rebuild their beautiful homeland. Wu expressed gratitude for this and briefed the guests on the situation of the quake disaster and China's relief efforts.

Wu made positive comments on China-Bulgaria traditional friendship and the development of bilateral ties in recent years. He appreciated the Bulgarian government's adherence to the one-China policy and hoped that BTA will continue to play its positive role in pushing forward bilateral ties. Minchev said Bulgaria cherishes the friendship with Chinese people and opposes politicizing the Olympics, expressing belief that Beijing will host the most successful Olympic Games in history.

The delegation is visiting China at the invitation of Xinhua News Agency.
