Assistant Foreign Minister Wu Hongbo Meets with Chairman of Foreign Affairs Committee of the Sejm and Chairman of Foreign Affairs Committee of the Senate of the Republic of Poland

On June 19, 2008, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Wu Hongbo met in the Foreign Ministry with Krzysztof Lisek, chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Sejm and Leon Kieres, chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Senate of the Republic of Poland, who are here in China to attend the fifth Asia-Europe Parliamentary Partnership Meeting (ASEP).

While briefing on China and China's development, Wu elaborated on China's principled position on the development of China-Poland relations. Wu said China attaches importance to developing ties with Poland and is ready to join hands with Poland to push for sound, stable development of bilateral ties based on mutual respect, equality, mutual benefit, non-interference in each other's internal affairs and taking the other side's major concerns into consideration. He also expressed hope that the Sejm and Senate of Poland will make positive contributions to this end.

The Polish side noted that to develop ties with China is an important target of Poland's foreign policy, and is also a consensus shared by the two houses of the parliament and the ruling and opposition parties of Poland. Poland will continue to adhere to the one-China policy and is ready to work with China to enhance cooperation on politics, economy, trade and regional exchanges and build mutual understanding and friendship between the two countries and their peoples.
