Yang Jiechi Holds Talks with Egyptian Foreign Minister
On November 6, 2008, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi held talks with visiting Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit.
Yang said Egypt was the first Arab and African country to establish diplomatic ties with China. With the care of the leaders of the two countries, bilateral ties have been developing smoothly. China is ready to continue maintaining high-level exchanges, enhancing the building of strategic cooperation mechanism and promoting sound, rapid development of the bilateral trade relations, Yang added. He pledged to enhance coordination and collaboration on international and regional issues with the Egyptian side. He also vowed to jointly hold successfully the fourth ministerial meeting of the China-Africa Cooperation Forum scheduled in Egypt in next year.
Gheit said Egypt attaches great importance to ties with China and called on the two countries to expand cooperation in all areas and further increase coordination and cooperation in international and regional affairs.
The two ministers also exchanged in-depth views on development of the cooperation forum between China and Arab countries, and some international and regional issues of common concern.
