On April 27, 2009, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Wu Hongbo and visiting Spanish Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Angel Lossada held political consultation between the two Foreign Ministries in Diaoyutai State Guesthouse.

Wu made positive comments on bilateral ties, saying that China is ready to work with Spain to build political trust, strengthen economic and trade cooperation, deepen humanities exchanges and enhance consultation and cooperation between the two Foreign Ministries. He hoped both sides will jointly commit to the sound, stable development of China-EU relations and push China-Spain comprehensive strategic partnership to a new level. Lossada said the Spanish government has always attached importance to developing ties with China, adding that Spain will continue firm adherence to the one-China policy, cooperate closely with China on economy, trade and culture and play a positive role in promoting EU-China relations.

Both sides also exchanged views on the global financial crisis, Alliance of Civilizations and other international and regional issues of common concern.
