Hu Jintao Meets with Jamaican Prime Minister

Chinese President Hu Jintao meets with Jamaican Prime Minister Bruce Golding at the Great Hall of the People, Beijing 

On the afternoon of February 4, 2010, Chinese President Hu Jintao met with Jamaican Prime Minister Bruce Golding at the Great Hall of the People.

Hu said that despite the distance keeping the two countries apart, the friendly exchanges between both peoples enjoy a long history. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties 38 years ago, China-Jamaica relations have been developing steadily with close high-level contacts and increasing political trust. Calling Jamaica one of China's most important trading partners in the Caribbean region, Hu said the two countries had made remarkable achievements in boosting exchanges and cooperation in various areas. Hu said that China and Jamaica, both developing nations, face identical or similar tasks and challenges and there is broad prospect for further development of bilateral ties. Yang said China attaches great importance to ties with Jamaica and would like to enhance political dialogue with Jamaica, strengthen mutual understanding and mutually beneficial cooperation, and jointly safeguard the interests of developing countries. He called for joint efforts to implement cooperation projects the two sides had agreed upon based on the spirit of complementarity, mutual benefit and win-win cooperation and explore new ways and fields of cooperation to push pragmatic cooperation in all areas for new progress. Hu expressed belief that with the joint efforts of both sides, the China-Jamaica friendly partnership of common development will surely develop better and benefit both countries and their peoples.

Golding told Hu that his government and people highly value relations with China. The friendly cooperative relations have enjoyed substantial development. The Jamaican government always sticks to the one-China policy and respects China's sovereignty and territorial integrity. He appreciated China's aid to Jamaica over the years, especially at the time of global financial crisis. Jamaica looks forward to enhancing economic and trade cooperation with China and welcomes Chinese businesses to invest and develop in Jamaica. China is ready to work with Jamaica to deepen bilateral cooperation in the areas of infrastructure, mining and culture, explore new ways of cooperation and push forward the friendly partnership of common development between the two countries.
