Assistant Foreign Minister Wu Hailong Attends the Boao Youth Forum 2011 and Delivers a Keynote Speech

On Sep. 15, 2011, the Boao Youth Forum 2011 was held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC). The Forum was attended by CPPCC Vice Chairman Tung Chee-hwa, Hong Kong SAR Acting Chief Executive Henry Tang, Commissioner Lv Xinhua of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Secretary-General Zhou Wenzhong of the Boao Forum for Asia and other guests. Assistant Foreign Minister Wu Hailong attended the meeting and delivered a keynote speech titled "Bravely Assuming the Mission of the Times and Jointly Creating the Future of Asia".
Wu summarized the features of the present era and spoke positively of Asia's achievements in development, Asia's strengths and potentials. He pointed out that Asia should maintain the good momentum of development and take the first chance in a world of change. Asia must seize the opportunity and meet the challenge. He proposed the development thinking of paying equal attention to innovation and inheritance, balancing between speed and quality, make overall planning for development and environment, improving growth and people's livelihood in parallel, and making competition and cooperation complementary. Wu Hailong also discussed the relationship between China and Asia. He stressed that China is a member of the Asian family. Entering the new century, China and Asia have developed hand in hand, have promoted each other and have jointly opened a new era for Asia's development. China cherishes the friendly and cooperative relations with Asian countries. China sticks to the partnership and friendship with neighbors and is committed to working together with other Asian countries to create a regional environment featuring peace and stability, equality and mutual trust, and win-win cooperation. China continues to adhere to the opening-up strategy of mutual benefit and win-win cooperation to expand and deepen the common interests with other Asian countries. China is committed to building a harmonious and prosperous Asia. China will always be a good neighbor, partner and friend of Asian countries. Wu Hailong made positive comments on the development advantages of Hong Kong. He said that the central government strongly supports the development of Hong Kong. He said that a thriving Hong Kong and a prosperous China will provide young people a vast arena to do big things. He expressed the confidence that with the unremitting efforts of Hong Kong people including the youth, the "Pearl of the Orient" will have a better tomorrow. He also expressed the hope that the young friends in Hong Kong could firstly base them in Hong Kong and increase their abilities; secondly have the motherland in mind and have a global vision; and thirdly bravely assume responsibility and jointly create the future. Wu Hailong extended his best wishes for greater development of Hong Kong, for the greater success of the youth friends and for the better success of the Boao Youth Forum.
The Boao Youth Forum is an annual event jointly organized by the Boao Forum for Asia and the Y. Elites Association since 2009. This is the third event. It aims to help the young people in Hong Kong understand the regional situation in Asia and promote youth exchanges and communication with other countries and regions. The Forum has aroused great repercussion in Hong Kong. The Y. Elites Association was set up in 2007, consisting of young entrepreneurs, professionals, youth leaders and elites of Hong Kong. Since its inception, the Y. Elites Association has actively participated in organizing various activities, including the welcoming of the Olympic Flame and Olympic champions to Hong Kong and donating in respect of the 2008 Sichuan earthquake.
