On March 14, 2012, visiting Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Zhang Ming met with French President's Diplomatic Adviser Jean-David Levitte. Chinese Ambassador to France Kong Quan attended the meeting.

Zhang expounded on the six proposals China raised on the political solution of the Syrian issue, as well as the efforts China has made to push for a fair, peaceful and proper solution to the issue. He said China is ready to maintain close communication with France in this regard.

Levitte welcomed and thanked for Zhang's visit and introduced France's views on the Syrian issue. He said France is ready to work with China and other parties concerned to seek a peaceful settlement of the Syrian crisis.
